What I Learned about Copyright
Posted on October 17th, 2007 at 7:00 pm by and
  • There are a lot of regulations and you can never assume that something does not have a copyright.
  • A copyright lasts the life of the author plus 70 years—thats a long time!
  • Even though teachers fall under fair-use act, they still have limitations, and they need to not abuse their responsibilities.
  • If you get caught breaking the rules of copyright you can be fined $150,000 or more if their is software involved!
  • Facts do not fall under copyright, but they way you choose to express them do.
  • As soon as you create something it has copyright, and people cannot take your work away from you without permission
  • Just because something was put on the internet does not mean that it is O.K. to copy and distribute it.
What I wonder about copyright
Posted on October 16th, 2007 at 1:40 pm by and
  • How come some material has a copyright and others don’t?
  • Where do I  go to find out about  the  “rules” regarding copyright?
  • What actually happens if you break the rules of copyrighting?
  • How can I tell if material has a copyright?
  • What is an appropriate way to teach students about the importance of copyright materials?
What I Know about copyright
Posted on October 16th, 2007 at 1:31 pm by and
  • Not all teachers treat it like it matters
  • Some material is  allowed to be massed produced for students
  •  You cannot assume that  materials can be massed produced

Chapter 2 – “What Brain Research Tells us About Learner Differences”

1. They differ on the values with which they evaluate their environment.

Chapter 3 – “Why We Need Flexible Instructional Media”

1. because the medium that you choose to use can still contain the same information but it can be displayed in various manners and engage kids in the ways that they need to stay focused and interested.

Chaper 4 – “What is Universal Design for Learning” -

1. Have a varied means of assessment. You want to make sure that you are assessing students to make sure you know where they are really at and accounting for the level at which they are performing. Don’t ask a child with dyslexia to read the problems on a math test, b/c you will not be able to tell if they are having a problem reading or a problem with the math.

Chapter 5 approaches goals – using UDL to set clear goals

1.Multiple ways for students to achieve the goals and have the students be aware of what is needed to achieve the goal so know what you are looking for.

Chapter 6 – materials and methods for reaching goals

1.Not all children come to school with the same background knowledge and it is important to provide and support that. It will help to bring students together and understand the information being presented in a lesson.

Chapter 7  – focuses on assessment

1. We need to incorporate new media and be sure that our assessment is accurate and reflect the differences in the students.

Chapter 8 – “Making Universal Design for Learning a Reality.”
1. there is no perfect example of UDL, but should still conisder areas in the school that couild benefit (technology, teachers, and parents). consider alternatives!!
